Advocacy
Learn about EAHP's activities aimed at enhancing and improving EU policies that impact hospital pharmacy.
The EAHP Board of Directors and staff have the mandate to represent the EAHP members and advocate on their behalf at the European policy making level.
In addition, EAHP supports its national delegations in getting their concerns and policies on the national institutions agenda. It provides the delegations with official letter templates, contact details of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), information about the upcoming European legislation and positions expressed by other health non-for-profit organisations.
The EAHP is part of the European Public Health Alliance (EPHA), a pan-European federation. Through EPHA, and other pathways, the EAHP joins forces with sister organisations to reinforce our messages and opinions.
The EAHP is the only body at the European level solely representing the interests of the hospital pharmacists.
Hospital pharmacy specialisation
Hospital pharmacists currently undertake a diversity of roles in the health care system. There are constant innovative changes being made to the pharmacists’ role to ensure the safe and effective use of medicines.
With the European Directive 2005/36/EC, the European Authorities have set a basic degree of university pharmacy study. Unfortunately, this basic degree doesn’t provide sufficient qualifications for the independent work of a Hospital Pharmacist.
Bar coded unit doses
During the 2006 EAHP general assembly, the members of the association gave the mandate to EAHP Board and staff to advocte for bar coded unit doses for hospitals, to be produced at the European level by the pharmaceutical industry.
