The ECJ rules on recognition of professional qualifications
The European Court of Justice has found three Member States guilty of not complying with the recognition of professional qualifications directive (2001/19/EC).
France, Germany and Austria have not incorporated the directive on the recognition of professional qualifications concerning the professions of nurse responsible for general care, dental practitioner, veterinary surgeon, midwife, architect, pharmacist and doctor within the required period of time, according to the European Commission and the European Court of Justice. If Member States do not implement EC directives, the Commission may ask the Court to impose a penalty payment on them.
Directive 2001/19/EC is part of a set of measures that aim to guarantee the right of each EU citizen to become established or provide services anywhere in the European Union, by allowing the mutual recognition of professional qualifications between Member States.
