Non-medical prescribers are experienced healthcare professionals trained and qualified to prescribe either in a supplementary or independent role. Under current UK legislation, suitably qualified pharmacists, nurses and optometrists may practise as supplementary or independent prescribers while physiotherapists, podiatrists and radiographers are limited to supplementary prescribing. Prof. Stewart has extensive experience of the education and research evaluation of non-medical prescribers, particularly pharmacists, and leads the Prescribing Research Group at Robert Gordon University where they have published widely in this area. Then he is involved in other areas of pharmacy practice including pharmacovigilance, pharmacoepidemiology and reclassification of medicines.
