1. Current Status, Position

Head of the Hospital Pharmacy , clinical pharmacy, pharmacology and epidemiology, Sint Antonius Ziekenhuis, Nieuwegein/Utrecht, The Netherlands.

2. Education

Mathieu Tjoeng was registered as hospital pharmacist in The Hague’s Central Hospital Pharmacy.
His professional career started in The Hague as clinical consultant of 2 hospitals and several institutions of psychogeriatric en somatic care.
After that start he was appointed Head of the Hospital Pharmacy of the Amersfoort Hospital, now called Meander Medisch Centrum. The last 12 years he is Head of the Hospital Pharmacy in St.Antonius Ziekenhuis in Nieuwegein and Utrecht, a teaching hospital with focus on cardiology, cardiothoracic and lung surgery, oncology, GI diseases and interstitial lung disease.
His professional interest has a wide scope from cardiology to oncology, from distribution concepts and patient safety, to innovative concepts of drug preparation.
He teaches managerial skills for hospital harmacists.
He was 5 years president of the Dutch Society of Hospital Pharmacy. In that period the specialisation of hospital pharmacy was officially accepted by law.

3. Research Area

Mathieu Tjoeng is interested in personalized medicine approaches with aspects of PK/PD modeling, pharmacogenomics, and the effects of clinical consultation, especially in the Intensive Care environment.
He is supporting research in pharmacoepidemiology, comparative effectiveness research, and new distribution concepts. He is a strong supporter of robotics and individual preparations, including radiopharmaceuticals.
