1. Current Status, Position

Prof Dr Daniel J. Touw is currently head of the laboratory of the department of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacology and responsible for all Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Clinical Toxicological laboratory work and clinical advices resulting from these assays. Professor Touw is also professor of Bioanalysis, Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Clinical Toxicology at the faculty of Medicine and at the faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Groningen.

2. Education

Prof Touw studied Pharmaceutical Sciences, State University Leiden, 1977 and became licensed pharmacist in 1984. He started his traineeship to hospital pharmacist in the Apotheek Haagse Ziekenhuizen, The Hague in 1986 and was registered as hospital pharmacist on 1 october 1989. He did his traineeship as radiation specialist (level 3) in 1989 and traineeship as clinical pharmacologist in the Apotheek Haagse Ziekenhuizen, The Hague and was licensed in 1994. He defended his PhD thesis on 18 Juni 1996 called 'Optimization of tobramycin therapy in cystic fibrosis, a pharmacokinetic approach' at the State University Leiden (Promotor prof. dr. D.D. Breimer, copromotor dr. W. Bakker, pulmonary physician). In 2011 he became a European registered toxicologist.

3. Research Area

Prof Touw focuses on investigating alternative matrices for Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Clinical Toxicology such as dried blood spots (DBS), hair analysis and other matrices.
