Tony West awarded RPS Lifetime Achievement Prize

Tony West, the Project Director for Implementation of the European Statements of Hospital Pharmacy, has been recognised by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) with an award for Lifetime Achievement.

The award recognises an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the pharmacy profession throughout their career by promoting pharmacy, innovation, research and development.

Helen Gordon, Chief Executive of the RPS, described West as a "phenomenal leader and role model in hospital pharmacy both in the UK and Europe".

"Among his many achievements has been his development of hospital pharmacy services at Guy's and St Thomas' (London), which have led the way for other hospital pharmacies," she added.

Tony West recently retired from his role as chief pharmacist at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, and also served for many years on the Board of Directors of EAHP as Director of Finance. He recently accepted a position as EAHP's Project Director for Implementation of the European Statements of Hospital Pharmacy.

EAHP President Joan Peppard remarked: "I am thrilled that Tony has received this richly deserved recognition of a lifetime's contribution to hospital pharmacy and the patient interest. Tony brings enthusiasm, commitment and a wealth of experience to the practice of pharmacy and its on-going development. We are also delighted that he accepted a new role as EAHP's Project Director for Implementation of the European Statements of Hospital Pharmacy. It's a privilege for EAHP and an advantage for patients in European hospitals to continue to benefit from his knowledge and experience in this way."
