1. Current Status, Position

Dr Addis is currently a Researcher at the Department of Epidemiology (Regional Health Service) at ASL Roma 1 - Lazio Region. He is a Member of the Scientific Committee of National Medicine Agency (AIFA), of the Regional Medicine Committee, and also of the Ethical Committee of Paediatric Hospital "Bambino Gesu" (Rome, Vatican City).

2. Education

After a degree in Chemical and Technological Pharmacy at the University of Milan, Dr Addis obtained a PhD in pharmacological research at "Mario Negri" Institute (Milan) in 1993, focusing his study on drug safety in pregnancy and children. From 1994 until 1997, he was a post-doctoral Fellow at the Laboratory for Mother and Child Health ("Mario Negri" Institute) and then at the Hospital for Sick Children, in Toronto: here he was also a visiting scientist and an Assistant Professor in the pharmacoepidemiology department. From 1997 until 2002, he was a full time Researcher at "Mario Negri" Institute (Milan) and then at CeVEAS (Modena). From 2002 until 2009 he was Head of the Drug Information Unit at the General Directorate of Medicines and Medical Devices for the Ministry of Health (which became the National Medicine Agency (AIFA) in 2005). He was an Alternate Member of the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) at the European Medicine Agency (EMA) (2008-2009), and also National Expert on secondment (2009-2011). He then worked as an Area Coordinator at Agenzia Sanitaria Sociale Regionale, Emilia Romagna Region (Bologna) until 2015.

3. Research Area

His research focuses on drug safety on children and during pregnancy, including vaccines. Dr Addis has expertise on drug utilisation studies and pharmacoepidemiology, health technology assessment projects and is also involved in medical educational activities for healthcare professionals, risk communication, pharmacovigilance and assessments of drug authorisation.
