Prof Otto Cars is a Senior Adviser at ReAct- Action on Antibiotic Resistance and at the Antibiotic Research Unit, Uppsala University Sweden.

Education

Prof Otto Cars is an MD and specialist in infectious diseases. He received his Medical Doctor (MD) from the Faculty of Medicine at Uppsala University in 1972. From 1972 to 1977, he was trained in infectious diseases, clinical microbiology and pediatrics at Uppsala University Hospital. Prof Cars became a certified clinical specialist in infectious diseases in 1977, and received his PhD in 1981.

He was the head of the Department of Infectious Diseases at Uppsala University Hospital, Sweden during the years 1991-1999. In 2003, he a became professor of Infectious Diseases at Uppsala University, and since 2014 he holds a position as a Senior Professor.

Research Area

Prof Cars' research has focused on antibiotic pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, optimal dosing regimens, surveillance of antibiotic resistance and consumption, rational antibiotic use and antibiotic policies.
