1. Current Status, Position

Dr. Cunningham (BSc (Hons) Pharmacy, PhD, PgDipClinPharm) is senior lecturer and group leader – clinical pharmacy / pharmacy practice, in the School of Pharmacy & Life Sciences at the Robert Gordon University.

2. Education

Dr. Cunningham graduated with a BSc (Hons) from the University of Strathclyde in 1989, completed an PgDip Clinical Pharmacy at Robert Gordon University and graduated in 1994. He completed a PhD at Robert Gordon University following thesis submission in 2001. He was previously a hospital pharmacist in NHS Tayside at Ninewells Hospital and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde at the Western Infirmary, Glasgow.  

3. Research Area

His research work to date has predominantly included work focused on educational developments in healthcare practice. His research base has been much broader than pure academic work focused on students in the higher education setting. At every opportunity, he has tried to be involved in research that involves practitioners and patients and so by being based in 'real life' it has made impacts on practice.

Dr. Cunningham was an 'Established' member of the former RGU Institute of Health and Welfare Research and the Clinical and Practice and the Pharmacy Education research groups within the school. He was also a member of the prescribing research group and the re-classification of medicines research group. In the former, he made significant contributions to the educational context and application of the 20 or so publications in pharmacist prescribing.

Current areas of interest and areas in which he has PhD students working are areas of e-health implementation, non-medical prescribing and workforce planning.
