Current Status, Position

Dr Helena Farinha is a Pharmacy Coordinator at Egas Moniz Hospital - Centro Hospitalar de Lisboa Ocidental and a Board Member at the Portuguese Pharmaceutical Society. She also is an Invited Assistant Professor at Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon.

Education

Helena Farinha graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Lisbon (FFUL) in 1994. She holds the Certificate in Pharmacy Practice from the Faculties of Pharmacy at the Universities of Barcelona and London and has a postgraduate degree in Hospital Pharmacy (HP) by FFUL. She is a Specialist in Hospital Pharmacy by the Portuguese Pharmaceutical Society (PPS). She also has several post-graduate courses (p.e. program in Senior Management of Health Institutions, PADIS 14 and LeaderShip in HealthCare Delivery - Nova School of business & Economics). She is an invited assistant at FFUL and ESEL (nursing school). She started working at the Pharmaceutical Services (SF) of Hospital de Egas Moniz (HEM) in 1994 and since 2006 she become the HEM Pharmacy Coordinator - Centro hospitalar de Lisboa Ocidental (CHLO). She is a member of several CHLO's technical committees (P&T committee, Ethics committee, Medical Prescription Monitoring commission, and local coordinating group - National Program for the Prevention and Control of Infections and Resistance to Antimicrobials). She is the author/ co-author of several scientific communications. She is the PPS representant at INFARMED Drug Evaluation committee (CAM). She is a member of the Board of the Portuguese Pharmaceutical Society (2016-2021).

Research Area

After her university degree, Helena Farinha specialized in Hospital Pharmacy by the Portuguese Pharmaceutical Society. In her first year of work at HEM pharmaceutical services, she implemented the clinical pharmacokinetics service (TDM), dedicating herself to this area and training other colleagues. She performed clinical activities in various services (infectious diseases, ICU, internal medicine) and coordinated support activity areas. Then, he also worked in the areas of procurement, quality, and management, and joined several working groups and technical commissions. Since 2006 she is the Responsible for the pharmaceutical services of the HEM-Centro Hospitalar de Lisboa Ocidental, coordinating the service.
