1. Current Status, Position

Roberto Frontini became Head of Pharmacy of the St. Franziskus-Hospital in Cologne in 1996. From 2001 to 2017 he was Director of Pharmacy at the University Hospital of Leipzig. He was from 2011 to 2017 Qualified Person of the production unit for Investigational Medicinal Products of the same pharmacy.

He was Trainer for pharmaceutical technology at the Chamber of Pharmacy Hannover between 1994 and 2005 and from 2004 to 2018 he was holding lectures on Pharmacoepidemiology and Economics for pharmacists at the University of Leipzig, faculty of medicine.  

From 2015 to 2017, he was Director for Patient Care at the Centre for Patient Safety in Leipzig. In 2005, he was elected as Director of Finances of the European Association of Hospital Pharmacists (EAHP) and from 2009 to 2015 he was its President.  

He retired in 2018 and works as a Consultant in many European projects.

2. Education

Roberto Frontini was born in Milan (Italy) December 20th 1950. After completing his school education he moved to Germany in 1969 and studied first musicology and conducting at the University and the High School for Music in Frankfurt.

He was from 1976 to 1981 resident conductor at the theatre of Lübeck and from 1978 to 2002 chief conductor of the Youth Symphony Orchestra Lübeck. After obtaining German nationality in 1988 he studied pharmacy at the University of Hamburg  from 1988 to 1992 and was a post graduate student in pharmaceutical technology at the same University until 1992.

In 1993 he obtained a PhD (Dr.rer.nat.) and worked at the hospital of the University of Lübeck until 1995. In 1996 he obtained a specialisation degree in hospital pharmacy.

3. Research Area

Roberto Frontini's special fields of interest are pharmacoepidemiology, automation and patient safety as well as quality assurance.  He was author and co-author of numerous publications.
