1. Current Status, Position

Dr. Antonio Melo Gouveia is currently chief pharmacist at IPO Lisboa, one of the major cancer centers in Portugal. He is involved in management, purchasing and decisions concerning drugs used in the hospital. He is also vice-president of the Portuguese health technology assessment committee (CATS) in INFARMED, the Portuguese medicines agency.

2. Education

Degree in pharmaceutical sciences with specialisation in clinical analysis and in hospital and community pharmacy. Post graduate studies in general management and in management and administration of health institutions. Started career as military pharmacist in 1989, worked in Portuguese medicines agency (INFARMED) from 1997 to 2001, as head of the area of drug assessment. Been chief pharmacist in oncology hospital since 2002. Has been a member of the drug assessment committee of INFARMED (CAM) since 1991, was a member of the national ethics committee for clinical trials (CEIC) from 2009 to 2011, and is VP of CATS since 2016. Was member and president of the college of hospital pharmacists of the Order of Pharmacist (regulatory body of the pharmaceutical profession) from 2010 to 2019.
