Current Status, Position

Prof Johan Neyts is a Full Professor of virology at the Faculty of Medicine of KU Leuven. He is also past-president of the International Society for Antiviral Research.

Education

Prof Johan Neyts obtained a Master of Biological Sciences in 1988 and a PhD in Virology in 1993. 

Research Area

Prof Johan Neyts teaches virology at the medical school and at the school of dentistry of KU Leuven. The lab has long-standing expertise in the development of antivirals strategies and drugs against emerging and neglected viral infections (such as dengue and other flaviviruses), Chikungunya and other alphaviruses, enteroviruses, coronaviruses, noroviruses, HEV and rables. A second focus of the lab is the development of novel vaccines. His team developed a very potent single dose COVID vaccine based on yellow fever thermostable vaccines against muti[ple viral pathogens.
