This national institution is composed of 2 communities:

• French (AFPHB - Association Francophone des Pharmaciens Hospitaliers de Belgique)
• Dutch (VZA - Belgische Vereniging van Ziekenhuisapothekers)

Goals

• VZA supports hospital pharmacists and associates to provide and contribute safe, affordable and high quality of care to patients;
• VZA organises educational events for hospital pharmacists and associates;
• Facilitates communication and exchange of expertise via a knowledge platform in particular our website;
• VZA encourages an integral approach of patient care and we contribute as an association by collaborating fully with other healthcare authorities.

Membership

ABPHB VZA represents 1.344 hospital pharmacists in 163 hospital pharmacies acorss Belgium.

Specialisation

Hospital Pharmacy specialisation is mandatory, lasting 3 years from 2013. This legally defined specialisation is required to work as a hospital pharmacist, and/or in a managerial role. 

This specialisation is composed of one academic year and two years of internship within the hospital (s). Key features of the internship are found below:

There is the opporuntiy to recieve financial support from the Belgian authorities in order to complete the specialisation programme.
