The European Summit on Hospital Pharmacy was launched at a special event at the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) Congress in Dublin on 3rd September 2013.

The statements on European hospital pharmacy practice to be produced by the Summit will take as their developmental starting point the 2008 'Basel Statements'.

In the 1st presentation, Lee Vermeulen of the hospital pharmacy section of the International Pharmaceutical Federation, explains what the Basel Statements are, and how they were derived.

In the 2nd presentation, Rebekah Moles of the hospital pharmacy section of the International Pharmaceutical Federation, explains the current status Basel Statement implementation, the challenges within this, and ongoing and future research in this area.

In the 3rd presenation Elaine Conyard of the Hospital Pharmacists Association of Ireland reflects on what the Summit means for development of services and practice at a national level.
