Cannes
Born as a fisherman village, Cannes, is a mix of old and new, with beautiful museums and gorgeous architecture.
Just west of the congress centre lies the real Cannes. Starting from the Vieux Port, you can follow the twisty cobbled rue St. Antoine all the way to Le Suquet. The old town with its castle ruins towers Cannes and offers great views of the bay. Collections of primitive art, Mediterranean antiques and paintings can be discovered in the Castre museum, located in the old castle and the Sainte-Anne Chapel.
After the congress, Hop on a ferry next to the congress centre and spend a relaxing day at Lérins Islands, an exceptional archipelago covered by a lovely scent-laden eucalypt forest. Do not miss the Maritime Museum (Musée de la Mer) in St. Marguerite Island (Île Sainte-Marguerite), hosted by Fort Royal where the legend says that the Man in the Iron Mask had been jailed.
St. Honorat island, smaller than St. Marguerite, is a calm place to visit, charged with an extremely rich historic and religious background. Enjoy a stroll in a peaceful setting and do not leave without sipping a glass of Lérina, an herbal liqueur that is produced in the island.
