EAHP welcomes Montenegro and FNSIP-BM as its newest members

14 July 2016

The European Association of Hospital Pharmacists (EAHP) is delighted to announce further expansion of its membership, with the addition of a new country Montenegro, and the supplement of EAHP's French membership platform to include the Fédération Nationale des Syndicats d'internes en Pharmacie et en Biologie Médicale (FNSIP-BM).

Montenegro's flagMontenegro will now be represented within EAHP by the hospital pharmacy section of the Pharmaceutical Association of Montenegro. It brings the total number of countries represented within EAHP to 35. Membership of EAHP is open to hospital pharmacy associations from any of the 47 member countries of the Council of Europe.

The breadth of the French hospital pharmacy profession now represented within EAHP has broadened with the inclusion of FNSIP-BM, who act on behalf of resident hospital pharmacists. Pharmacists working in the French hospital sector must complete a 4-year period of residency in order to complete their specialisation in hospital pharmacy. FNSIP-BM now form part of a trio of representative organisations for France with EAHP, alongside the Syndicat national des pharmaciens des établissements publics de santé (SYNPREFH) and the Européenne de Formation pour les Pharmaciens (EFP).

The applications for membership of EAHP were unanimously approved by the existing membership at the 2016 General Assembly recently held in Prague (9-12th June).

Vesna Basic Milosevic, President of the Hospital Pharmacy section of the Pharmaceutical Association of Montenegro, remarked: “Our members are enthusiastic to be more involved in EAHP's professional development and representation activity. Engaging in important discussions at the EAHP General Assembly such as how to achieve the 44 European Statements of Hospital Pharmacy, and the construction of a common training framework for hospital pharmacy in Europe, was tangible evidence of the value achieved when hospital pharmacists from different countries work together for a shared vision”.

Christelle Elias, Vice-President of FNSIP-BM, said: “EAHP is a future-focused organisation busily engaged in achieving new visions for the hospital pharmacy profession. Young pharmacists have such a strong stake in that future, which is why FNSIP-BM is so enthusiastic to be a part of EAHP”.

Joan Peppard, EAHP President, commented: “It is always a special General Assembly when we welcome new members. They bring new insights, experiences and energy to the Association and expand our ability to make a positive difference in hospital pharmacy practice across Europe”.
