1. Current Status, Position

Patrick Souverein is an assistant professor in pharmacoepidemiology.

2. Education

Souverein studied Medical Biology at the University of Amsterdam (1991-1995) and did a one-year Msc-course in Epidemiology in 1996. He first joined the current Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Clinical Pharmacology in 1996 and obtained his PhD in December 2002 with a thesis focusing on detection of drug exposure effects among patients having a high baseline risk of the outcome of interest, using patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia, erectile dysfunction and glucocorticoid use as examples of such populations.

3. Research Area

Since January 2003, Souverein supervises and assists PhD-students with respect to study design and data management. He is involved in many of the research projects within the department and acts as a contact person to external data suppliers like CPRD and the WHO-Uppsala Monitoring Center. He is specialized in working with large relational databases and the work up of raw electronic healthcare data to analyzable data matrices.
